Find Answers to Common Questions About This Experience
Do I need to be super fit to join?

No. You should be comfortable biking and paddling for a few hours a day, but this isn’t a race. You set your own pace, take breaks when you need to, and enjoy the experience instead of racing through it.

Does the fee cover the meals?

You’ll be responsible for your own meals. Many people pack lightweight food for the river, stop at local spots along the bike route, or cook at camp. We’ll send tips and ideas ahead of time.

Do I need to bring my own bike?

You can bring your own bike or use one of our recommended rental partners. Once you register, we’ll send you options that work well for the terrain.

Where do I leave my car?

Our best advice is to not bring a car with you. The best car is no car. Ideally, get yourself dropped off at the kickoff camp and have someone meet you at Drifty Fest. We'll even toss them a free beer. If that's not possible, there is paid, secure parking at the Dane County airport. The covered ramp costs $10/day, the surface lot is $8/day, and the economy lot is $6/day. Pro tip: The finish line is only 2 miles from the airport. Alternatively, there's free surface parking at the Dutch Mill Park & Ride, which is 10 miles to the start line and 6.5 miles to the finish line.

Do I need to bring a kayak or canoe?

Nope, we provide your kayak or canoe. You just need to bring your bike, your camping setup, and a willingness to have fun.

What happens to my bike while I'm paddling?

We transport it for you. Once you switch to paddling, our team moves your bike to the next transition point so it’s waiting for you the next day.

Where are we camping?

You’ll camp on sandbars or riverside campgrounds along the route.

Can I bring a paddle board?

Yes, SUPs are allowed for the river section if that’s your preferred setup.

Can I sign up alone?

Absolutely. There are participants who come solo. You’ll have your own gear, but you’ll bike and paddle near plenty of other people. It’s a super welcoming group.

What if the weather is bad?

We roll with Wisconsin weather as long as it’s safe. Light rain doesn’t stop us, but severe storms may adjust parts of the route for safety.

Can I come with friends?

Yes! You can register as a team of 2 or 3 if you want to share a canoe and go through the whole experience together.

Is the event safe?

It’s adventurous, but we prioritize safety. The course is beginner-friendly, transitions are supported, and our team is available if you need help while still letting you enjoy the challenge.

What if I’ve never paddled before?

Basic paddling skills help, but you don’t need to be an expert. The river is beginner-friendly, and you’ll get support at transition points if you have questions.

What if something comes up and I can’t go?

We don’t offer refunds, but your registration is fully transferable. You can give your spot to another person or switch to another Lost Travel experience of equal or lesser value.
